New Neighbor

A single mother to be just moved in on our back porch. So far she seems pretty cool. She is quiet, and hasn't caused any trouble. I hope that she gets to know me and won't start freaking out once her two kids are born. I'll keep you guys updates as things develop.

Miranda July is Cool

Please familiarize yourself with Miranda July. She directed the movie Me and You and Everyone We Know and has done a lot of other cool art/ performance art stuff. The most recent thing that got her back in my mind is this little instructional video on how buttons are made.

Stuff From My Office #1

We have lots of cool stuff where I work, so this is the first installment in a series I will be doing called Stuff From My Office. The Atlas of Human Anatomy is a book I found in a file cabinet which used to belong to the Sentara Hospital Library. It has all kinds of sweet drawings in it like the ones picture below. Stay tuned for more Stuff From My Office in the coming weeks as I dig through old school AV and Hospital equipment.

Photographing Consumption

Photographing American Consumption is something that has always interested me and something that I have and continue to try to do. Brian Ulrich does a much better job of it than I do. Check the video for more images and an interview. Below are my best shots in this genre.

Podcasting

I got an ipod for Christmas mostly to listen to podcasts. I like music just fine, but I find that a podcast holds my interest and passes the time a lot better than my music collection. I listen to a lot of podcasts. Below is a list of some of my favorites. Just click the title to subscribe in itunes. No ipod required.

This American Life
Interesting stories presented in an interesting way. Usually not on newsy subjects, always excellent.

Radio Lab
Each show explores a subject like Zoos, Stress, or Deception with a quirky production style.

Studio 360
Public radio's take on creativity, pop-culture and the arts. Always interesting and usually ahead of the curve.

First Week of Work

I started my new job at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital this week. I am working in Audio/Visual Resources. Most of the job is loaning out computers and LCD projectors for presentations and trouble shooting any problems that may arise. We are also responsible for the four Sentara TV channels which run instructional videos all day about the hospital. The exciting part of the job will be the videography. We film and edit surgeries as well as events around the hospital. We will be filming an up coming fire drill involving the fire department. As I typed all this it doesn't sound too exciting, but it sure beats my last job.

Another cool thing about my job is that we have lots of cool equipment. We just got a new MacBook Pro and a Wacom tablet along with Adobe Creative Suite and Final Cut Studio Pro. We have a Canon 40D plus lots of lights and cameras.

Good Neighbors

Hanging with the neighbors on a sunny Saturday afternoon. We feel lucky to have such good neighbors.
